FAQ
Short, practical answers — written for SysOps who just want to get doors working without a drama.
BBSlink is run by a SysOp in Worcestershire, England. The server has historically been hosted on a VPS in Italy
with nightly backups to a separate location. Hosting can change over time — the goal is reliable 24/7 uptime.
Historically, BBSlink has used US Eastern time (including daylight savings changes) for daily resets.
It’s a practical compromise for where many players are located.
No — doors are intended to be played through participating BBSes. That keeps your community central:
callers return to your board to play again, and your system stays part of the loop.
You can browse participating boards on the BBS list.
It’s a two-stage process: a quick authentication handshake (HTTP), then a telnet session into the door server.
Your BBS passes identifying info so the player is linked to your system on BBSlink.
If you want the full flow, the developer resources include a worked PDF.
Synchronet has a native JavaScript client, and there are options for Windows and Linux-based setups.
Mystic-specific resources exist too. If you’re on something unusual, you can still join —
build a small wrapper using the documented connection flow.
Fill in the short application form and you’ll get credentials and next steps by email.
